Whispers of the C

I almost canceled the routine call for a mammogram. That’s me in a nutshell, always not willing to find the time for any thing to do with doctors. But there is always something else that took priority and it has been a habit. Old habits die hard they say. I looked out and saw the snow and the weather forecast said snow with rain and wind. Aaah, to drive in that weather! I called to see if I could move the appointment to some months forward, when the weather was a bit better. Only an idiot will base health issues on a weather forecast, but, hey that’s me. The lady on the other end said that she would take me off the list if I moved one more time. Yes, guilty, I had the appointment the first week in January but moved to mid-month. Something whispered and said, go get it done and over with.

Have any one of you ladies ever wondered why no one has come up with a better invention of how to take those mammogram pictures? Because it only concerns the female, so why bother right? Don’t know about you but hell, it is a painful process - our breast is not meant to be flattened, there are no little holes to squeeze the air out to make it flat. I hate it whenever they tell me to “just lift it put in on the metal plate, go as close as you can but move your head away”. Just because you have reached a certain age doesn’t necessarily mean your breast is hanging down to your waist! Don’t generalise! Picture this, me petite, practically hanging or rather hugging the machine, both hands stretched out, face turned away as though someone just punched me to look the other side, and the metal plate above comes down slowly to press your round breast and you make this small squicks of scream! Just like one of those space movies where you get tortured, tied up to a machine which bashes you! Yes I do that all the time and they don’t seem to understand why! I take my hats off to those who do not feel a thing! At the end of the day you feel that your breast has been man handled, manipulated and smashed, but for a good reason. If this made you laugh, good for you…

And let me whisper … “this is how it all started”
